Certified Diabetic Educator on Site

Take advantage of Miltowne Pharmacy’s multi-leveled diabetes care program which includes free education on your medication, blood glucose monitoring, glucometers and alternative medications. Sandy Faheim is a certified diabetes educator and can provide high level education on managing your diabetes.

We will provide glucometer training and targets for blood glucose, as well as diet and lifestyle plans for newly diagnosed patients. We will work with your other healthcare providers (family doctor, endocrinologist, diabetes care team) to optimize your glycemic control – and adjust therapy if needed. We also carry a full range of diabetic supplies e.g. glucometers, tests strips, and needles as well as insulin pump equipment.

One on One Consultation and Medication/Disease Management

Our pharmacists a valuable source of information and a key member of your healthcare team for your medication and disease management. We can provide guidance on how your disease progresses, monitor effectiveness and safety of medications prescribed, and suggest non-medical approaches to dealing with your disease such as lifestyle changes.  We also provide training on devices such as your blood pressure monitor, glucometer, inhalers and insulin pens.  We collaborate with other healthcare professionals and can always advise you on how to enhance your quality of life and improve health outcomes.

MedsCheck Program

The MedsCheck program is a free service that Miltowne Pharmacy offers to members who have a number of high-cost prescription drugs. Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long Term Care says if you are 3 or more chronic medications, you qualify and will benefit one-on-one interview between the pharmacist. You will be invited to participate in this program designed for your specific health and pharmacy needs. You may decide not to participate, but it is recommended that you take full advantage of this covered service if you qualify and are asked to participate.

You can benefit from medical compression therapy if you are experiencing:

At Miltowne Pharmacy we have a certified fitter on site to help measure you and show you the variety of compression stockings we offer.  We measure you for custom fitted stockings to suit your specific compression needs.

Medical compression therapy applies a type of elastic device on limbs or other body parts to exert a controlled pressure on them. Thereby, the device squeezes the vein walls together and improves the circulatory rate. Medical compression also helps with reduction of edema and recreates conditions beneficial for the healing of chronic inflammatory disorders.

Medical compression can be applied in different pressure degrees, forms, and styles and materials based on the symptoms and needs of individuals. Round- and flat-knitted garments (stockings, leggings, shorts, tights, pantyhose, arm sleeves, gloves, etc.), wraps, and bandages are available.

Our smoking cessation program starts with a one-on-one support service and advice to recipients who want to give up smoking. The program includes a readiness assessment where a patient may enrol in the smoking cessation program with the pharmacy as well as a first consultation and several follow-up counselling sessions over a one-year period.

We will help to facilitate access to smoking cessation aids and can prescribe therapy if appropriate.
